    Vocational Grant Program
    The Rhode Island State Elks Association annual Vocational Grant Program is now underway.
    Students planning to pursue a vocational / technical program in a school or college leading to a terminal associate degree, certificate or diploma, but less than a baccalaureate degree, are eligible to compete for $600.00 grants offered by the Rhode Island State Elks Association.
    Graduating high school and vocational school seniors as well as older students who have a high school diploma or a GED are eligible to apply.  The grant is for one year and is not renewable.  The student must carry a minimum load of 12 semester credit hours each term.
    Completed applications must be returned to your local Lodge by April 6, 2012. Local Lodges are found on this site or you may call RI State Elks Scholarship Chairman at 401-573-9453.
    Vocational Grant Application
    Emergency Educational Grants
    The Emergency Educational Grant program provides financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks, who wish to obtain or further their college education. Grant amounts are based on the information submitted in the application and can range up to $4,000. The grant is for one year only; however, the student may submit up to three annual renewal applications for succeeding years as long as he or she meets all other eligibility requirements. The applicant cannot accept more than one ENF scholarship/grant in any one academic year. New applications should be filed between July 1 and December 31. Renewal applications must be filed between July 1 and October 31. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. The grant is for educational assistance only and not intended to cover the entire cost of a college education. Assistance cannot be extended beyond four years.
     
    Before applying, please be sure that the applicant meets the following eligibility guidelines.
    • The Elk parent or stepparent must have been a member in good standing for at least one year at the time of his or her death, or
    • The Elk parent or stepparent must have been a member in good standing for at least one year before he or she became totally disabled and must continue to be an Elk in good standing when application for assistance is made.
    • All circumstances surrounding the death or disability of the Elk parent or stepparent are subject to the review of the Elks National Foundation. The outcome of the review may effect grant approval.
    • The applicant must demonstrate financial need to qualify for a grant under this program.
    • The applicant must be unmarried, under the age of 23 as of Dec. 31 in the year of application, and attending an accredited, degree-granting U.S. college or university as a full-time (12 semester hours) undergraduate student.

     

    Elks 2011-2012 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Program

    Eligibility: Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen may apply for an MVS scholarship.

    Applications will be judged on: Scholarship, Financial need, Leadership

    Legacy Scholarship Awards
    Who is eligible?
    • Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2009, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2009, is eligible to apply. The Elk must be a paid-up member through March 31, 2012. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
    • The applicant must be a high school senior.
    • The applicant must apply online. Go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars to start the application process.

    • If the applicant’s parent and grandparent are both Elks members, the applicant must use the parent as a sponsor.

    • Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may receive only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, we award the scholarship with the greater value.

    • Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited U.S. schools, colleges or universities and cannot be used for vocational-technical schools. (Note: Applicants from Panama and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)

    • Applicants must take the SAT or the ACT by December 31, 2011.

    How many scholarships will you award, and who will I compete against?

    Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships issued over four years. The Foundation offers a total of 250 awards.

    Children and grandchildren compete separately against other children and grandchildren in their state. Each state is eligible to receive a number of awards based on its past support of the Elks National Foundation. Each state’s quota is divided evenly among children and grandchildren.
