As we prepare to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends, I want to bring your attention to 2 very important events coming up in the next 2 weeks that go to the heart of what the Elks organization is all about.
The first is Memorial Sunday, which is this Sunday December 1 at 2PM. This event remembers all the members of our lodge who have passed away since last years event. It is open to the public and family members of each deceased member have been invited. This event happens on the first Sunday in December in every lodge, and is one of only 2 mandatory events. I encourage you to attend this special event and support the lodge. A collation (reception) will follow.
The second is the Veteran of the Year dinner, which will be Saturday December 7 at 2PM. As you know, supporting veterans is something the Elks take very seriously. Each year, we nominate a veteran and honor him/her with a dinner. Our 2013 Veteran of the Year is Jim McLoughlin from Jamestown. Proceeds from this dinner will donated to the Bristol Veterans Home. There will be quite a few people from the Jamestown community attending. Please show your support of the lodge and our worthy veteran by attending this event. Cocktails at 2PM and dinner at 3PM.
Wishing you all a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
