Passing of Donald D. Dapelo Past Grand Exalted Ruler
We have the sad duty to report on the passing of Donald D. Dapelo, Past Grand Exalted Ruler (1989-1990) of the Coalinga Lodge #1613 on Sunday, March 9, 2014, with his family by his side. He lived most of his life in Coalinga, CA. Don served in Korea as a cryptographic specialist in the United States Army Signal Corps.
Don was active in community affairs. He was a Director of the Chamber of Commerce; a Planning Commissioner for 13 years; Chairman of the Coalinga Redevelopment Agency; Mayor of the City of Coalinga for three years during its recovery from the devastating earthquake in 1983; Citizen of the year in 1982; member of the Fresno County Council of City Governments; member of Fresno County Airport Land Use Commission; Eucharistic Minister and Lector for Saint Paul’s Catholic Church; and served as a member of the board of directors for the Coalinga Regional Medical Center for seven years. He was a Life Member of the American Legion and V.F.W., as well as the Navy League and Stanford Alumni Association. Don was elected Grand Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. from 1989 to 1990, and since that time served as Sponsor to the states of Nevada and Utah Elks Associations, as well as co-sponsor of California and Hawaii, Guam and Manilla.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Demers Family and the Attleboro Lodge on their loss.
“We shall meet, but we shall miss him,
There will be one vacant chair”
Anyone wishing to purchase the below mentioned pins / or pendants please contact Leo Blanchette, SD of RI @
You may have noticed in the March issue of The Elks Magazine that our endorsed candidate for Grand Exalted Ruler to be balloted upon at the Grand Lodge Convention in New Orleans is a Colorado friend of mine. As a matter of fact, I am his Aide Designate.
This note is a personal invitation for you to join me and the others on John’s team by helping with the sale of his Patron pins and pendants. As you can well appreciate, it is a huge financial load for a State Association to bring a Grand Exalted Ruler into being, and John’s fund-raising pins and pendants are part of our effort and process.
The good news is that the purchasers of the pins and pendants will receive a special invitation with a preferable select time to attend the GER-Elect Reception in New Orleans on Monday afternoon, July 14, 2014.
The pins and pendants (shown below and attached) are in the traditional Elks style and have a “dangle” of the Colorado state flower, the Columbine, which flourishes only at altitude and serves as a reminder of our commitment to the youth of our nation.
I will have as many pins and pendants that you feel comfortable with sent to you to help our sales effort, along with information for the purchasers. The pins sell for $100 each. An additional pendant to make a set of two is $150 for both. There will be no problem returning unsold pins.
Please let me know how many pins or pin sets you think you might be able to help us sell in your area or state.
May I take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your consideration and your help. Looking forward to seeing you in New Orleans,
Raymond F. Ross, SDGER
GER Aide Designate
